Hood Insulations are copied from original factory pads. They are already cut to fit with all openings and mounting holes prepunched and generally install in 10-15 minutes.
When installing it is good to have a friend to help you hold the pad in place while you line up the clip holes. Many hood pads are held on by plastic or metal retaining clips that we also have available. Some hood pads are also held up with glue and we find that 3M Trim Adhesive works best. This glue is available in most body shop supply stores and many other automotive supply stores such as NAPA or Pep Boys.
Hood Insulations are made from a fiberglass material so that they will not burn. Hood Insulations protect your expensive paint from engine heat as well as giving a finished clean look to your engine compartment.
The factory originally installed hood insulations to help the engine reach operating temperature quicker so that there would be less wear and tear on engine components. The factory insulations in time fell victim to age and rodents who use the material to build nests. Engine oil and other dirt from the engine compartment would also saturate the original material causing it to look unsightly or to deteriorate quicker.
If you do not see an insulation listed here for your year, make or model of vehicle please contact us as we are adding many new patterns yearly and can also take your original pad or pattern that you supply and make you a pad. Hood insulations generally take 4-6 weeks from the time of receiving the pattern until we ship your new one with the original back to you. To help copy as close as possible the original hood pads we have these insulations made in a variety of colors and patterns.
Some of these patterns and colors include a replica of the tar saturated material, waffle, and the most popular; loosely woven fiberglass. Colors range from yellow to different shades of grey and black. When installing yellow hood pads the yellow part of the pad goes against the hood while the dark side faces the engine. When installing the loose fiberglass pattern with a smooth black backing the smooth black backing goes against the hood while the grey to dark grey loose woven fiberglass faces the engine.
Please line the pad up first before attempting to install the first clip as the clips are generally designed for a one time use and hard to remove once put into place without damaging the clips or the pad.
